From Co-Director Heather Putnam: “We are establishing this garden to create a space that embodies Shannon Collins’ dedication to the Center and her community. Having the garden come to fruition will support educational efforts and programs at Walnut Avenue Family and Women’s Center as well as build community. We are building a space with our hands and hearts to invite our community to use the garden plots, play in the garden and engage with the Center.”
The Garden directors reached out to Take Back Santa Cruz earlier this summer with concerns about break-ins, vandalism and illegal camping at the WAWC and the budding Memorial Garden.
We offered to help them in their fundraising efforts by hosting another FUNdraising event at Woodstock’s Pizza in downtown Santa Cruz. Come join us for Pizza and for a great cause on Monday, September 12th from 5 pm to 9 pm.
They have since been able to erect a new fence but are in need of funds to to construct two locking gates (one in front and one in back) and security lighting to further secure the space.
